The change in our food & eating patterns and chronic stress results in many changes and disturbances of our digestive system. A herbal tea such as chamomile tea (tea for digestion), commonly available as loose tea or tea bags, in its decoction form, helps to overcome and reduce issues relating to digestion.

Our routine life has become increasingly hectic, with a quick bite on the street or junk food becoming a regular thing to do, as we lack time to cook a healthy meal. It is sad especially as we work for the primary reason to gain better access and sources of food. However, working late hours and with higher stress levels, we generally end with increased cravings and torture our bodies, often leading to gastric issues, anxiety, and sleep issues even at an early age. Stress is an inevitable part of modern life. However, it is completely in our hands to prevent our bodies from being constantly under stress. Poor gut health upsets the entire physiological and psychological system and can lead to chronic stress, which causes multiple health issues. So how can we tackle the entire issue?

Well, aim to have a healthy lifestyle, which means the addition of a balanced meal, adequate water intake, exercise, and most importantly- getting enough sleep. Add a helpful herbal tea to your routine, which can help to calm the system, relax the body, reduce stress, thereby helping your gut to work better.

Yes, that is right- Chamomile tea is a herbal tea to improve the digestive system. Called the tea for digestion or the calming tea, it can surely help you beat stress! Dried Chamomile tea is a herbal tea made from dried chamomile flowers, which are rich in the key constituents flavonoid glycosides & volatile oils. Chamomile herbal tea has been used for ages for relaxing & calming the body.

Nowadays, Chamomile herbal tea (tea for digestion) is readily available in the market as both loose flowers and tea bags, for distilling into a tisane decoction. People generally opt for tea bags, as these are convenient to carry & use anywhere. Dunking tea bags into the water to brew a cuppa seems more appealing while on the run.

However, as a Nutritionist, I recommend the best way to use Chamomile herbal tea is in a loose flower herbal tea decoction form. When loose Chamomile tea is added to boiled water, steeped for 3-5 minutes, the resultant Chamomile herbal tea in decoction form is much stronger and is more efficient than tea bags. Since dried Chamomile flowers, when made in a loose brewed decoction, come directly in contact with water to better release their flavonoids & volatile oil into the pure Chamomile herbal tea decoction. Hence, a decoction of this herbal tea gives much better results in comparison with pre-packaged chamomile tea bags. A decoction brewed from tea bags is inefficient as a tea for digestion, as herbal tea from tea bags is more diluted and less effective. The problem arises mainly as tea bags usually contain dust and bits rather than the pure whole chamomile flowers that work as a tea for digestion.

My recommendation for the pure & the best available source of Chamomile herbal tea for use in a decoction form is BestSource Nutrition’s Chamomile tea. A daily intake of 2-3 cups of this herbal tea for digestion in a decoction form can help you have better gut health!

Here is how Chamomile tea is the ideal herbal tea for digestion- Aids indigestion –

  • As per a review article by Mahmoud Bahmani et al in Journal of Chemical & Pharmaceutical research 7(1), 2015; chamomile herbal tea helps cure mal digestion, improves appetite & helps relieve flatulence.
  • Aids in countering hyperacidity – As per research submitted in Medical Journal of Babylon-Vol. 9- No. 3 -2012, which focused on chamomile flowers and their effect on treating gastric ulcers by Shaima Ali Abid, states that chamomile flavonoid constituents contribute to smooth muscle relaxation and chamomile tea had anti-inflammatory and spasmolytic effects on the stomach and duodenum.

Adding BestSource Nutrition’s Chamomile tea, a tea for digestion, to your daily routine not only helps improve digestion but also helps you sleep better, reduces stress, calms your mind, is an anti-depressant, good for skin & reduces inflammation. These health benefits of Chamomile tea occur mainly when it is in its pure decoction form instead of being used as dust-filled tea bags.
