Why should you take an antioxidant supplement?

Antioxidants, a special class of natural micronutrients, protect our body from damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules that damage cells and contribute to aging and diseases. Antioxidants pair with them and make them stable.

If your body does not get adequate protection against free radicals, your body cells can malfunction. This can lead to tissue degradation and increase your risk of diseases. Antioxidants are natural micronutrients that fight free radicals. Antioxidants included in natural food content are Polyphenols, Carotenoids, Beta-Carotene, Lycopene, Vitamin A, selenium, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E. Natural plant foods that are high in antioxidants, are also rich in phytonutrients that act as antioxidants, including polyphenols found in grape seed extract; resveratrol found in red wine; catechins found in green tea, and curcumin found in turmeric. Additionally, our body also produces some of its natural antioxidants, known as coenzyme Q10. Although antioxidants are widely present in food sources supplementation is essential when our diet lacks them. Various research establishes the effects of dietary polyphenols on human health.
